In September 2025, the CRTC held public hearings under the heading of The Path Forward with the goal to modernize the Broadcasting Act and to create a sustainable Canadian broadcasting system.
After almost five full days of presentations from various interested parties at the hearing, there was one thing that clearly stood out…and that is the need for regulatory change. From the Canadian broadcast industry, there was unanimous agreement about the urgent need to address the profound impact on our business from the foreign and unregulated digital audio industry.
So, where are we now? This panel will dive deep into the regulatory pool from both a broadcaster and policy perspective in search of the Path Forward - a strong and viable commercial broadcast industry in Canada.
Ross Davies, President, The Davies Company, moderates this conversation with Steve Jones, President, Stingray; Scott Shortliffe, Vice President, Broadcasting, CRTC; and Kevin Desjardins, President, CAB; as they assess progress and chart the next phase of Canada's broadcasting and music ecosystem. |
