Thank you for Making our Conference A Success!
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Association of Broadcasters (OAB) followed last year's successful conference with yet another, Thursday at On the Park Events and Conference Centre with a full day Conference, Sales Training and Awards presentation.
The conference featured a great line-up of speakers including Tim Casey, John Parikhal, Lew Dickey, Mike Leahy, Daniel Anstandig and Sean Luce. A new session this year was the Presidents' Panel, featuring Charles Benoit, Astral Radio; Richard Costley White, Blackburn Radio; Chris Pandoff, Corus Radio; Christopher Grossman, Haliburton Broadcasting Group; and Paul Ski, Rogers Radio.
Doug Kirk, OAB President remarked, "We have had an excellent day with outstanding sessions on the changing environment facing our businesses and how new trends present threats and opportunities. Lew Dickey's keynote address stimulated and re-invigorated our approach to the radio business. The conference provided real value to our members."
The OAB Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Richard Sienko. Richard graciously accepted his award by thanking the many people who played a part in his success and added a few thoughts on the industry.
The 2011 Community Service Awards were presented to the following stations:
RADIO, LARGE MARKET – AWARD: KOOL-FM, Kitchener for their Farewell Poster Boy Campaign in support of the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. Brian Bourke, 105.3 KOOL FM Morning show co host, news director and Poster Boy accepted the award.
RADIO, LARGE MARKET – HONORABLE MENTION: ASTRAL Radio London for London Works, a job fair in London. This year more than 3,500 people and 50 employers attended with full and part time positions. Tom Cooke, Vice President/General Manager accepted the award.
RADIO, SMALL MARKET – AWARD: 100.5 EZROCK, North Bay for "Kevin & Joël's Breakfast with the Troops" to celebrate Armed Forces Day with CFB North Bay. Kevin Oschefski and Joël Lamoureux, Morning Show Hosts accepted the award.
RADIO SMALL MARKET – HONORABLE MENTION: CD 98.9 FM, Simcoe for their Digital X-ray Challenge Radiothon in support of the Norfolk General Hospital. Promotions Director/Morning Show Host, Gerry Hamill accepted the award.
TELEVISION – Award: CTV Barrie for Goals for Goals Charity Shootout where winners received donations to their favourite charity. Ten different charities were assisted including Kids Help Phone Barrie, Special Olympics Barrie and Players Assisting Kids Huronia Community Foundation.
