7th Annual Career Development Day
Monday, March 19th, 2012
The Ontario Association of Broadcasters is proud to present the 7th Annual Career Development Day. Thank you to Rogers Broadcasting as they have graciously agreed to host our dynamic event - Monday, March 19th at 1:00 p.m.
Career Day 2012 will include a Panel discussion entitled, “The Future of Broadcasting”. This discussion, moderated by Jim Carr, Director, OAB and Professor, Seneca College, will discuss the direction of broadcasting, what skills will secure your future job and how to get started in broadcasting.
The highlight and main feature of our day, the roundtable discussions will include broadcasters from all areas of radio and television. This is a one of a kind opportunity for soon to be graduating students to speak candidly with experienced broadcasters. They will give students first hand information on all aspects of broadcasting in today’s marketplace. This exchange of ideas is invaluable to students hoping to enter the broadcasting field. Many of our broadcasters, who volunteer their time, return year after year. They’ve found this day to be fulfilling and informative when understanding a student’s perspective on our ever changing industry.
OAB member broadcasters have used this opportunity to accept resumes and meet with students to discuss summer or future positions as well as internships. Last year, Astral Radio, Bayshore Broadcasting, Haliburton Broadcasting Group and Larche Communications were all on-site meeting future broadcasters.
Students interested in attending Career Day 2012 should contact their professors. Professors and coordinators are asked to email a list of students who would like to attend to memberservices [at] oab [dot] ca. Space is limited and only confirmed names received via email will be allowed entry.

about career day
In 2006, the Ontario Association of Broadcasters created an event designed to give back to broadcasting students from all over Ontario, and over the years this has become the must-attend event of the year for students. Each year Ontario College and University broadcast students are invited to meet industry representatives from Radio and Television.
Broadcasters volunteer their time to speak candidly with soon-to-be graduating students about the industry and their field of expertise. Many return year after year to assist in this worthwhile event. In 2010 Career Day was expanded to include a Panel Discussion entitled “Starting Out”, answering the hard questions about starting your career; and a Job Board with postings from member stations for everything from internships to full time job opportunities.
At Career Day each year the OAB also presents the Michael Monty Scholarship Award to a lucky student, who's not only strong academically but also gives back to their school and community by volunteering.
The continued success of this event is due to the many broadcasters and educators who volunteer their time to participate, without whom, this event would simply not be possible. Thank you to everyone who has joined us each year.
