lifetime achievement awards
Annually, the Ontario Association of Broadcasters (OAB) presents a Lifetime Achievement Award to individuals who have brought distinction or have made major contributions to the broadcasting industry. The Board goes through a nomination process and selects an individual who demonstrates vision and leadership while illustrating an outstanding commitment to the industry.
This year the Board of the OAB was pleased to honour Richard Sienko, founder of Target Broadcast Sales, as its 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
Richard Sienko began his career in broadcasting with Radio & Television Representatives (RTVR) in 1955. Early in his career Sienko decided to work at stations in order to better prepare himself to service agencies with first hand market experience.
Richard’s hands on experience served him well, as throughout his career he was promoted and quickly moved up the ranks to Executive Vice President of Tele Capitale Unicom. In 1976, after 15 years with the company, the Quebec based firm decided to take a new management direction and Richard was out of a job. On September of that same year, Richard and his wife Donna opened Target Broadcast Sales. Despite there being more than 15 national rep firms in Canada, Target Broadcast Sales grew and prospered. Today, thirty-five successful years later, Target Broadcast Sales is the only independently owned national radio rep firm in Canada.
