Ontario Association of Broadcasters’
5th Annual Career Development Day
A Winner with Ontario Schools!
Career
Day 2010 was oversold! The Ontario Association of Broadcasters’
Career Day 2010 owes its success to the many broadcasters,
educators, students and sponsors who continue to contribute
their time and efforts to make this event worthwhile.
On March 8th Ontario College and University students were
again invited to the Rogers Campus on Bloor Street to
meet industry representatives from Radio and Television
for the 5th Annual OAB Career Development Day. The event
was enjoyed by students and broadcasters alike. Student
comments included; “liked learning real life experiences
in the industry”, “easy to interact with all of the professionals”
and “coming face to face with successful industry leaders
gave me great insight”. Thank you Rogers for graciously
allowing the OAB to use your facilities for Career Day
2010 and to our sponsors The Canadian Press and Broadcast
Dialogue.
At
Career Day 2010, the Ontario Association of Broadcasters
presented the Michael Monty Scholarship Award to Michelle
Quinn from Mohawk College. This Scholarship is awarded
each year to a student who's not only strong academically
but also gives back to their school and community by volunteering.
The
OAB introduced two new initiatives for Career Day 2010,
a Panel Discussion, entitled “Starting Out” and a Job
Board, sponsored by Media Job Search Canada. The Job Board
included postings from OAB members for internship, part-time
and full time jobs. The Panel Discussion featured Corey
Fuchs, President, Media Job Search Canada; Crystal Emmitt,
HR Director, SUN-TV; Andrew Forsyth, Independent Consultant;
Jennifer Taran, HR Manager, Rogers Media. Also in attendance
to speak with students about getting their first job will
be Isabelle Mayrand, HR Director and Laure Mareau, Admin.
Asst. HR from Astral Radio Group. Thank you to our panelists
and Human Resources staff for participating in Career
Day 2010.
The
highlight of Career Day featured broadcasters on hand
to speak candidly with soon-to-be graduating students
about the industry and their field of expertise. Thank
you to everyone who volunteered their time to join us
