The
Ontario Association of Broadcasters’ Michael Monty Scholarship
Award was presented to two students. Aisha Porter-Christie
from Ryerson University and James Vorstenbosch, from Sheridan
Institute of Technology were deemed both deserving of this
year’s award. Michael Monty spent more than 33 years as
a Professor at Seneca College. He served on many boards,
including the Broadcast Educators Association of Canada,
Radio-Television News Directors Association, and the Ontario
Association of Broadcasters. His contributions to students'
success in careers across the country through his involvement
in both the BEAC and RTNDA, has made a genuine difference
in our industry, touching the lives of thousands of students.
This Scholarship is awarded to a student who has not only
a high academic standard, but who is also making a difference
in their community.
The
OAB hopes this event will expand communication and understanding
between the requirements of broadcasters and the needs of
educators and students. This is a great opportunity for
students and broadcasters alike to listen, learn and participate
in meaningful conversation about our industry.
Career Development Day is an Ontario Association of Broadcasters’
initiative and its committee is headed by John Hinnen of
Rogers Radio. The Professional Development Committee includes:
Robert Brignell, Bayshore Broadcasting; Jim Carr, Seneca
College; Jerry Chomyn, Humber College; Jim Macdonald, Independent
Broadcast Consultant; Scott Metcalfe, 680 News.
The
Ontario Association of Broadcasters would like to thank
this year’s sponsors, The Canadian Press, Canada’s Trusted
News Leader and Broadcast Dialogue, the Voice of Broadcasting
in Canada.
